Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 until Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small community situated on the West Island, which is part of the Montreal island. The West Island can be confusing to people unfamiliar of its purpose. Many people believe that it's an island to the west of Montreal However, it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is often referred to as her birthplace. However, she only resided there for a very short time. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa, Ontario. She aspired to be professional, however because of a huge growth spurt she outgrew every dance partner she met. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed that in heels she was six feet and one inch tall. Once I was bigger than my male counterpart, I stopped. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. For Brugel, it was the encouragement from her drama teacher in high school who pushed her to the path she required. The teacher was the one who advised her to audition for the role of Anne in the school's annual production. She auditioned and was cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. This led to her being awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her Master of Fine Arts at York University. Since then, Brugel has been in over 60 productions both large and small. Most notable was when she landed the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel, the only Canadian of the Season 1 cast of the show as well as appearing only on occasion, was the only Canadian.
